Celebrate the freedom to read!

Posted by Kristi on September 27, 2010

It’s Banned Books Week, and the American Library Association has released a list of the top ten most frequently challenged books of 2009.  The list includes the Twilight books by Stephenie Meyer, ttyl by Lauren Myracle, The Earth, My Butt, and Other Big Round Things by Carolyn Mackler, and several other young adult books.  A challenge to a book, whether it’s in a school library, public library, or elsewhere, is an attempt to remove or restrict access to a book.  A banned book is one that has actually been removed from the shelves.  The ALA has more information on book challenges and why they happen here.
